The University of West Georgia Athletic Foundation, Inc. is proud to announce a record breaking $2.9 million for the 2014-15 fiscal year, an increase of 164 percent from least year’s $1.1 million raised.
Donors nationwide expressed their generosity through gifts of various sizes. Two legacy gifts of $1 million each were given in addition to fundraising through individual donors, corporate partners, construction projects and naming opportunities contributing nearly $1 million to the grand total.
“We are grateful for the generosity of our dedicated supporters,” said Matthew Clay, executive director of the Athletic Foundation. “The monetary gifts from our donors have been put to great use. Last year we allocated privately funded scholarships to 20 student athletes, maintained our athletic program facilities, and purchased necessary equipment to help support our 13 athletic teams.”
Scholarships for student athletes are awarded based on the needs and academic achievements of each student.
“I am so thankful for the opportunities that the football scholarship has given me,” said Alex Macaulay ’15, the first Academic All-American in UWG history.
Like Macaulay, hundreds of UWG students have been acknowledged for their academic achievements over the years. Last year, 121 UWG athletes were named on the Gulf South Conference Academic Honor Roll, and the University named 12 student athletes Ingram Scholars.
“The success of the foundation is a collaborative effort,” said Clay. “The foundation’s mission is to inspire generosity, exceed expectations and achieve excellence. And with the help of every donor, I believe it has done just that.”
The UWG Athletic Foundation, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit corporation, established in 2013 to support University of West Georgia student athletes and the athletic program.
