They may come from different professions, walks of life and even states - some from as far away as California - but all those returning to UWG for Alumni Weekend will bring a variety of memories to share as they Reunite West to make some new ones.
Highlighting the weekend, which unfolds over March 2-3, will be the 42nd annual Evening
with the Stars, an awards gala honoring UWG alumni who have achieved marked success
in their fields. UWG alumna and former homecoming queen, Shaunya Chavis-Rucker, will
serve as master of ceremonies.
A former news reporter and anchor at a number of network-affiliated stations around the country, including WSB-TV in Atlanta, Chavis-Rucker, who earned a mass communications degree in 1988, is the cable and film director for Fulton County Government and station general manager and anchor for FGTV, the county's public government television station.
Alumni weekend kicks off March 2 with a wine tasting that runs from 5-7 p.m. at the Alumni House. Immediately following, the legendary Harlem Globetrotters will display their basketball wizardry as they square off against long-time rivals the Washington Generals.
Athletics will be the focus again on Saturday, March 3, when the UWG Wolves take the field for the first time in 2018 in a scrimmage from 10 a.m. until noon at University Stadium. Attendees can join the Family Fun Day Tailgate from 12-3 p.m. for games, food and fellowship.
Evening with the Stars opens with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m. in the Campus Center Ballroom. The awards dinner follows at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the celebration are $20 each and reservations are highly appreciated.
"We invite you to see what is new on campus, reconnect with friends, and make some new UWG memories!" says Denice King, assistant director of Alumni Relations.
Guests are encouraged to take a little West home with them.
