Jennifer Heidorn

Jennifer is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sport Management, Wellness, and Physical Education at the University of West Georgia, where she has served since 2007 in a variety of instructional and leadership roles. Her teaching and scholarship focus on preparing future educators through innovative, student-centered pedagogy, with an emphasis on integrating physical activity, wellness, and social-emotional learning into K-12 and higher education settings.

Jennifer’s professional interests include physical activity integration across academic content areas, mindfulness and contemplative practices, personal and social responsibility (TPSR) curriculum, mental and emotional wellness, elementary health and physical education pedagogy, and fitness-based activity programming. She is especially passionate about helping educators design meaningful, movement-rich learning environments that support the development of the whole child.

Jennifer is an active scholar and presenter at the national, regional, and state levels, with contributions to organizations such as SHAPE America, NAKHE, and GAHPERD. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance and Pedagogy in Health Promotion, with research and practice centered on engagement, movement-based learning, and community-driven wellness initiatives.

Beyond academia, Jennifer integrates her passion for wellness into community engagement. She is a certified soul care counselor, actively providing counseling support within her community, and a Registered Yoga Instructor (RYT-200) through the Yoga Alliance. She has completed advanced training in Holistic Whole Body Wellness and Trauma-Informed Yoga, and currently provides yoga therapy to survivors of human trafficking, emphasizing healing-centered, trauma-sensitive practices.

Jennifer’s work reflects a holistic philosophy that bridges education, wellness, and human development, with a strong commitment to empowering individuals, both students and community members, to thrive physically, mentally, and emotionally.
