Cale Self, DMA

Cale Self enjoys a multi-faceted career as a conductor and educator, and as a performer on euphonium, tuba, and trombone.  He began his career teaching high school band in his hometown of Midland, TX in 2002 and over the past two-plus decades has journeyed across the country to perform in places like the Brevard Music Center in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina and Carnegie Hall in New York City.  Recently, he was invited to perform with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra on euphonium on a program that included Gustav Holst’s work The Planets. 

Dr. Self is Professor of Music, Director of Athletic Bands, and Instructor of Euphonium & Tuba at the University of West Georgia in beautiful Carrollton, GA. He directs the Marching Wolves of West Georgia and the Wolf Gang Basketball Pep Band, and conducts the Brass and Tuba Ensembles.  He also currently serves as Music’s Program Coordinator at UWG. 

Holding degrees in music education and instrumental conducting from West Texas A&M University, Self also holds a doctorate in euphonium performance from the University of Georgia. His teachers include David Zerkel, John Lynch, Allen Crowell, Patrick Sheridan, Sam Pilafian, Gary Garner, Joe Nelson, and Joseph Cox.  

Dr. Self has performed at state, regional, national, and international conferences and festivals in Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. He has performed under conductors Jonathan Heyward, Keith Lockhart, JoAnn Falletta, Thomas Wilkins, Robert Moody, and Steven Smith.  He also serves on the artist faculty at the Brevard Music Center’s Low Brass Seminar as BMC’s euphonium instructor. 

Dr. Self is an artist affiliate with Eastman Winds and Parker Mouthpieces. He is active in the state of Georgia and throughout the Southeast as a soloist, ensemble musician, conductor, clinician, and adjudicator.
