Ana Zapata-Calle, Ph.D.

Ana Zapata-Calle is an Associate Professor of Spanish at the University of West Georgia. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia (2014). Her dissertation focused on contemporary Afro-Cuban poetry, but her current interdisciplinary research also encompasses Afro-Hispanic culture from a range of countries. She has published articles in journals such as Revista Iberoamericana, Chasqui, Decimonónica, Afroeuropa, and Centro Journal, among others. Recently she has published an issue of the Afro-Hispanic Review Journal as a guest editor about the theme of the Afro-Aesthetics and Hair, and in 2024, her book La poesía testimonial womanista y transnacional de Nancy Morejón: de la mujer negra cubana a George Floyd was published by University of Seville Press. Simultaneously she is writing about novels written by Afro-European authors.
