Marion Franklin Cannon, MSIT

Marion Franklin Cannon is an award-winning lecturer in computer science in the School of Computing, Analytics, and Modeling within the Dr. James 'Earl' Perry College of Mathematics, Computing, and Sciences at the University of West Georgia. Committed to fostering inclusive pathways in STEM, she grounds her teaching in a "warm demander" pedagogy—a framework that balances high professional standards and accountability with actionable digital literacy and growth-mindset support. Marion brings over 20 years of technology-integrated legal industry experience from her tenure at Alston & Bird LLP to higher education, effectively bridging academic theory with practical labor market demands.

Currently an Education Specialist (EdS) candidate in Workforce Education at the University of Georgia (expected Dec. 2026), Marion’s advanced coursework focuses on curriculum design, AI in workforce education, adult learning, and consumer financial planning. She holds a Master of Science in Information Technology and a Graduate Certificate in Health Information Technology from Kennesaw State University, along with a BAS in Administrative Management and dual AAS degrees. An active curriculum developer, she created XIDS 2002: Building Your Career Readiness (First-Year Experience Seminar), COMP 2910: Sophomore Computing Seminar (Career Readiness), and COMP 2350: Introduction to Digital Media.

A credentialed career development practitioner holding GCDF-I, CCSP, FCDI, CPRW, and CSCC credentials, Marion serves as the Faculty Sponsor for the ACM-W Student Chapter and actively contributes to campus governance on the Perry College Student Affairs Committee (2026–2028) and department search committees. She remains dedicated to community outreach and creating accessible pathways for underrepresented students in computer science and technology. Outside of her academic and professional work, Marion is an avid crafter working with beads, fabric, and heat transfer vinyl and stays active on the court playing pickleball.
