Marion Franklin Cannon, MSIT

Marion Franklin Cannon is an award-winning Computer Science Lecturer at the University of West Georgia, specializing in the intersection of technical literacy, workforce education, and career development. A 2023 Governor’s Teaching Fellow, she uses a "Warm Demander" pedagogy to connect academic theory with the changing needs of the modern labor market.

Her extensive teaching background spans secondary and postsecondary levels, including roles at West Georgia Technical College, Chattahoochee Technical College, and Atlanta Public Schools. This diverse experience allows her to support students effectively through every stage of their professional transition. In addition to her faculty role, she serves as the Faculty Sponsor for the UWG Association for Computing Machinery-Women (ACM-W) student chapter and is a member of the Perry College Student Affairs Committee.

Marion is a credentialed Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF-I) and a Certified Career Services Provider (CCSP), as well as a Georgia Certified Professional Educator. Currently an Education Specialist (EdS) candidate in Workforce Education at the University of Georgia, she holds a Master of Science in Information Technology and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Administrative Management. In her free time, Marion is an avid pickleball player and a prolific crafter who enjoys creating intricate designs with fabric, beads, and vinyl.
