Jo Mayo

Professor Jo Mayo earned a Master's degree in English from Jacksonville State University, where she focused on teaching college-level courses, grant writing, and serving as the graduate assistant for the Honors Program. In 2025, she began her career as an English professor at Columbus State University while also teaching online courses part-time at the University of West Georgia and working as a writing coach at the Columbus Technical College. She is now a limited-term, full-time English Professor at the University of West Georgia and looks forward to continuing to grow her career at UWG. Outside of academia, Professor Mayo is a professional dancer and actress. She has performed in the Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show and appeared in I Can Only Imagine 2, among other productions. She believes that with determination and hard work, anything is possible.
