Ryan Gautreaux
FacultyRyan J. Gautreaux is a lecturer in Communication specializing in public speaking and critical communication studies. He brings more than a decade of teaching experience across four universities and three countries, working with students in face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats. His instructional background spans public speaking, media literacy, media and sports, communication law, newswriting, and he has taught large-section and multi-format courses at institutions including Georgia State University and Butler University, where he most recently served as a lecturer in the Department of Communication.
Gautreaux is completing his Ph.D. in Communication at Georgia State University, with the degree expected in December 2026. His dissertation, Aligning Distances: Construal-Level Congruence in Misinformation Correction, examines how message framing shapes the correction of misinformation. He also holds an M.S. in Communication and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
His research applies computational and multimodal methods to questions of persuasion, media framing, and digital credibility, including studies of political discourse, social media, and public communication. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Global Perspectives in Communication and Media and referees for journals including the International Journal of Communication, Feminist Media Studies, and Dynamics of Asymmetric Conflict. His own work appears in venues such as the Journal of Arts and Communication and Discover Global Society, and he has presented at conferences across the United States, Morocco, Nigeria, France, and Colombia.
Outside the university, Gautreaux is a hobbyist actor who has performed in productions for Hulu, Disney, and other outlets around the world; his experience with performance and audience that informs how he coaches students through the nerves, presence, and delivery that public speaking demands.
