Procedure
The Graduate School application is available online at www.westga.edu/~gradsch (click on "How to Apply" for more information). All forms required for admissions are provided on this page. A $30.00 non-refundable application fee is required before the application can be submitted. Former University of West Georgia graduate students do not need to pay the application fee a second time if our records indicate they have paid the application fee in the past.
All materials (completed forms, official transcripts, and official test scores, etc.), with the exception of the immunization form, must be sent directly to the Graduate School. Immunization forms must be returned to the Department of Health Services. For more information, call 678-839-6452. To ensure proper consideration, all documents should be on hand at least 20 days prior to the proposed time of enrollment. International applicants should submit all documents required for admission at least 60 days prior to the proposed time of enrollment. All documents become the property of the University and will not be returned. Transcripts and test scores are not considered official unless sent directly from the institution/university and/or testing agency administering the standardized tests to the Graduate School.
Applicants who want to defer admission must inform the Graduate School in writing and indicate the term in which admission is desired if they wish to continue the application process.
If a prospective student's application for admission is denied, she or he may appeal in writing to the Dean of the Graduate School within ten (10) business days after receipt of notice that admission has been denied. The Dean will reconsider the admissions decision after he applicant submits additional materials supporting the request and upon the recommendation of the faculty of the program to which the applicant has applied.
Information concerning the administration of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), the Miller Analogies Test (MAT), TOEFL, or IELTS may be obtained through links found on the Graduate School's web page at www.westga.edu/~gradsch. Scores from out-of-state administrations of the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) taken from October 1990-August 1991 and scores from MAT tests taken after June 30, 1996 are unacceptable. The Graduate School accepts scores from the new MAT (scores for test administered on or after October 1, 2004). The Graduate School's rules for accepting old MAT scores still apply as stated above. Please understand that not all graduate programs accept scores from the old or new version of the MAT. See the Graduate School web site or contact the office for information. MAT scores are unacceptable for admission to the doctoral programs. All doctoral programs require official scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Passing scores on the PRAXIS series (for tests administered prior to September 1, 2006 - see GA Professional Standards Commission for more information) or GACE I/II are required for admission to teacher education.
All students admitted or readmitted fall semester 2004 and onward are required to sign the Academic Honors Pledge.
