September 15-October 10

Library Gallery, 3rd Floor Ingram Library

Special Event:

  • Reception:
    Wednesday, September 17 / 4:00-6:00 p.m.

In Unicorn Blood and Mother's Milk, Felicia Castro explores her experience of motherhood after her baby was diagnosed with heart disease at 20 weeks in utero: from the fantasy of possible futures to the harsh reality of what could be a fatal diagnosis. Her paintings capture the horror, harshness, and brutal beauty of navigating the day to day of mothering a baby with CHD. She uses baby shower iconography; nursery room décor; and images from the NICU, post-op open heart surgery, to create a tension between the pain and resiliency of both mother and baby.
