Earth & Environmental Sciences

The Earth and Environmental Sciences Program offers opportunities to understand the critical issues facing our natural world using a hands-on, applied approach.
We are a student-centered program that offers a challenging and rewarding educational experience that is as diverse as our planet. Our classes emphasize hands-on learning in the lecture hall, laboratory, and across the world. We believe that students learn best through applying concepts outside in nature as well as through conducting their own original research. We also offer testing and licensing with the National Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG) and opportunities in geospatial/drone mapping. Out students frequently expand their networks through the presentation of research at regional and national conferences, and many continue their studies at leading graduate schools.
We welcome all students that are interested in learning more about the earth and our environment. Looking to make a difference in your world from the local to the global? Your future-forward career starts here.

Graduates of the program excel in the skills and knowledge needed for success beyond UWG. Our alumni thrive in private businesses (such as geologic exploration and environmental consulting), and as GIS analysts/developers, environmental analysts, and sustainability coordinators. Students also pursue careers at state and federal agencies such as the Georgia Environmental Protection Division and the US Geological Survey.
