The Posters at the Capitol event is a unique opportunity hosted by the Georgia Undergraduate Research Collective each year. This event allows students to present their research to an audience of State Representatives and Legislators at the Georgia Capitol. The event is highly prestigious, with each university only having two presenters each year. This year, it will be held on February 17, 2026 at the James H. “Sloppy” Floyd Building.
Selection Criteria and Process
Participating universities are asked to submit two primary undergraduate research projects (and up to two alternate projects) to represent their institution at the event. Only undergraduate students selected by their university are eligible to submit their research project to the official event, and those projects must be mentored by faculty. There is a limit of two student presenters per poster.
The University of West Georgia selection process involves a committee review of all submissions. Students interested in submitting will need to submit an abstract (no more than 250 words), a statement about their presentation experience (no more than 250 words), their faculty mentor’s name and email address (they will need to approve the submission), and completed research poster. The research poster should be no more than 36” by 48”.
Submissions for the UWG selection process are due by Friday, January 16, 2026. Students selected to represent UWG at the event will receive notification by January 20, 2026 and will need to submit to the official event no later than Friday, January 23, 2026.
Day of the Event
All presenters must arrive at the Capitol no later than 12:30 pm to begin the event at 1:00 pm. The event organizers will provide stands for the posters, but do not provide funds for or help with printing posters. Be sure to arrive with your printed poster in hand for setup.
All presenters should be dressed in either business casual or business professional attire. If students are in need of professional attire, UWG offers the Career Closet where professional attire can be borrowed at no cost. The Career Closet is located on the 3rd floor of the UCC and is open Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. For additional information, please reach out to careers@westga.edu.
Be prepared to speak about your project with attendees who stop by your poster. They want to hear from you about your research!
Please refrain from discussing politics while at the Capitol.
