Investigation Processes

Investigation Process for Students and Registered Student Organizations

Allegations of hazing involving students or student organizations are investigated by the Office of Community Standards in accordance with the University of West Georgia Student Code of Conduct (Wolf Code). Reports are reviewed promptly to determine whether temporary measures are necessary to protect the safety and well-being of individuals or the campus community during the investigation.

The respondent (student or student organization) will receive written notice of the alleged violations and an opportunity to participate in the student conduct process. The Office of Community Standards will conduct a prompt, fair, and impartial investigation, which may include interviews with involved parties and witnesses, review of documentation, photographs, videos, electronic communications, and other relevant evidence.

If a student or student organization accepts responsibility for the alleged violation, the matter may be resolved through an informal resolution. If responsibility is disputed or additional review is necessary, the case may proceed through the formal student conduct process as outlined in the Wolf Code. Determinations are made using the preponderance of the evidence standard, meaning it is more likely than not that a violation occurred.

Following the investigation or hearing, the respondent will receive a written outcome outlining the findings, any assigned sanctions, and applicable appeal procedures. Confirmed hazing incidents involving student organizations will be published in the University's Campus Hazing Transparency Report, as required by the Stop Campus Hazing Act.
