National Pan-Hellenic Council

Legacy, Leadership, and Lasting Impact
The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) unites historically Black fraternities and sororities that are grounded in scholarship, service, leadership, and lifelong commitment. Joining an NPHC organization offers students the opportunity to build strong bonds, honor tradition, and make a meaningful impact on campus and in the community. At University of West Georgia, NPHC provides a close-knit, supportive environment where members grow as leaders, serve with purpose, and carry their values well beyond college.
The purpose of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) shall be to foster cooperative actions of its members in dealing with matters of mutual concern. NPHC promotes the well-being of its affiliate fraternities and sororities, facilitates the establishment and development of local initiatives within the community, and promotes leadership development and lifelong membership.

Membership Requirements
The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) at the University of West Georgia is composed of eight of the nine historically, though not exclusively, Black fraternities and sororities. Known collectively as the Divine Nine (D9), these organizations are built on a legacy of culture, academic excellence, community service, leadership, social justice advocacy, and lifelong bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood. NPHC members are active leaders on campus, hosting and participating in educational, cultural, and social programs that enrich the UWG community.
NPHC fraternities and sororities welcome new members through a membership intake process, which begins with either:
- Informational Meeting – An opportunity to learn more about a specific organization, its values, and membership expectations.
- Interest/Rush Meeting – A formal event for students who are ready to express their interest in joining; this meeting often marks the start of the organization’s intake process.
- Each NPHC organization hosts intake at its own designated time during the fall or spring semester. To be eligible for membership, undergraduate students must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Be enrolled full-time at UWG
- Have earned at least 12 credit hours
- Hold a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
- Complete the required volunteer/service hours
- Be in good conduct standing with the university
- Attend NPHC 101 prior to taking part in any chapter’s intake/recruitment process. This seminar is good for one calendar year.
Note: GPA, credit hours, and service hours are the minimum NPHC requirements. Some organization requirements may be higher or more specific.
