Once you have applied to the University of West Georgia, and have been accepted, it can take 10-12 weeks for the Registrar's Office to complete your individual transfer evaluation. If you have questions, please visit the Admissions Office or the Registrar's Office. Please also keep in mind that every nursing program is different, and nursing programs at other institutions may require different prerequisite course work.

Students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program (Pre-Licensure) are evaluated and advised based on a specific Program GPA. A Minimum Program GPA of 3.00 or higher on a 4.0 scale in order to be considered for program admission. This GPA is calculated using all completed core coursework applicable to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at UWG. If any of the applicable courses have been repeated, all attempts are included in this calculation (excluding W’s).

In addition to our admission Program GPA requirement, The University of West Georgia’s Tanner Health System School of Nursing (THS SON) has implemented a GPA requirement for students to continue in the Focus Area Health Professions major after completing 24 credit hours in the nursing core coursework. This GPA policy is based on a review of student progression and graduation in the Focus Area Health Professions major over a six-year period.

The policy is as follows:

  • Once a student has earned 24 credit hours in Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) core coursework, he or she must have a Nursing Program GPA (PGPA) of 2.8 or higher to continue in the major of Focus Area Health Professions.
  • The Nursing Program GPA is calculated using all completed core coursework applicable to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree at UWG, and includes any course repeats. Course withdrawals are not included in this calculation. If any of the applicable courses have been repeated, all attempts are included in this calculation; excluding withdrawals (W).
  • THS SON is committed to its mission of exemplifying academic excellence in a caring environment by providing quality undergraduate and graduate education to meet current and evolving health care needs within the global community.
  • Students who do not meet the 2.80 GPA requirement after 24 hours may not continue in the major (Focus Area Health Professions) and must choose another major by the end of that semester or will automatically be changed to a major in Health and Community Wellness.

Please keep in mind that your application to the Tanner Health System School of Nursing is in addition to the application for the University of West Georgia.
