In order to keep everyone safe and to maximize all patrons' experience, University Recreation has certain policies in place that provide a safe and welcoming environment for all. Below are all the current operating policies. Video monitoring for security and safety purposes is conducted by UREC staff. Failure to comply with these policies may result in disciplinary actions.

University Recreation is currently doing an evaluation of these policies so updates may be coming soon. 

General Campus Center Policies

  • Patrons assume all risk when utilizing University Recreation (UREC) spaces/activities
  • Patrons must provide a current UWG ID when accessing secured building areas or if requested by a UREC staff member
  • Attempting to enter the facility using false identification will result in ID confiscation and/or suspension of facility access privileges
  • The Fitness floor has specific dress attire policies (below). All other areas behind the gates require a top, bottom, and closed-toe shoes. Anyone not following the dress code will be asked to change or leave
  • All bags and personal belongings should be stored in lockers. Both day-use and rental lockers are available
  • Arguing, profane language, or fighting is prohibited
  • Unauthorized personal training and group instruction is prohibited
  • All filming or photography must be pre-approved by our Marketing Coordinator, Lauren Adams, at least 24 hours in advance. Patrons can email Lauren at laurena@westga.edu for inquiries/approval
  • UREC is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items
  • Outside food can only be consumed in the lobby, atrium, or meeting rooms of the Campus Center. All beverage containers should be resealable and all trash should be disposed of properly
  • All injuries should be reported immediately to a UREC staff member
  • Respect for equipment, spaces, and staff must be demonstrated at all times

Fitness Floor/Track/Functional Training Policies

  • Please utilize all equipment as appropriately designed. If you are unsure, ask a staff member for assistance
  • Patrons are expected to clean equipment after each use
  • Limit use of a single machine to 30 minutes to allow other patrons access if there is someone waiting
  • Jump roping is prohibited in low ceiling areas
  • Control all weight equipment to avoid banging or dropping weights
  • Weight collars should be used on all barbells when adding weight
  • Re-rack barbells, dumbbells, plates, and return all accessories
  • Olympic lifting and barbell deadlifting must be performed on Olympic platforms
  • For assistance with equipment and/or spotting, please ask a UREC staff member
  • Walkers should use inside lanes when possible

Olympic Lifting

  • Olympic lifting on the platforms is restricted to patrons who have been approved by UREC staff
  • Patrons must visibly display the designated Olympic lifting tag when performing these types of lifts. These can be checked out at the equipment desk
  • All bumper plates and collars are to be cleared from the bar and put back in the proper location (bumper plates organized from lightest to heaviest, left to right) at the conclusion of the workout
  • Only one person is allowed on the platform at a time
  • No spotting should be performed outside of the squat rack
  • Bumper plates must be used at all times on the platforms

Fitness Floor Dress Code

  • Shirts should cover full torso and do not expose skin below the shoulder blade including the rib cage
  • Shorts/pants should be free of belts, studs, rivets, and zippers
  • Shorts must cover gluteal fold
  • Shoes must be closed-toe and cover entire foot and worn at all times

Courts

  • Courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis when not reserved for programs, special events, or approved reservations
  • Individuals waiting for court time (next) may not be passed over
  • Hanging on the rims or nets is prohibited
  • Clean, closed-toe, nonmarking, textured sole shoes are required on the courts
  • All equipment must be returned 15 minutes prior to the building closing

Game Room

  • Equipment must be checked out with a valid UWG ID. Patrons may be held responsible for any lost, damaged, or broken equipment
  • Only University Recreation games and controllers can be used in the game room
  • Sitting, standing, or leaning on tables is prohibited
  • Gambling is prohibited
  • All game room activities are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Usage may be limited to one hour to allow other member access

Esport Arena

  • These policies will be coming soon

Climbing Wall

  • Due to safety precautions, only bouldering (short routes below 15ft of height) will be allowed at the Climbing Wall until further notice
  • Climbers are not allowed to go past the sign saying "DO NOT BOULDER PAST THIS POINT"
  • Down climb when finished with the route - no jumping off
  • All climbers must have a spotter at all times. WGO staff will assist if needed

Group Fitness

  • All participants are encouraged to bring a clean towel and bottle of water for use during the class
  • Chewing gum is not permitted in the group fitness studios
  • All personal items must be stored in the provided lockers or cubbies
  • Control all weight equipment to avoid banging or dropping weights
  • If any lightheadedness, dizziness, nausea, or any other intense discomfort occurs, please take a water break and inform the instructor of the class
  • Group fitness classes are closed to additional participants 5 minutes after the class begins. If a participant misses the warm up, they may not participate in the class

Event Reservations

  • Helium balloons, glitter, fog machines, candles, open flame, and animals (service animals excluded) are prohibited in any Campus Center space
  • Golf carts/motorized vehicles are not permitted on the Campus Center back patio
  • University business must not be disrupted by events. This includes entering and exiting the Campus Center, or amplified sound
  • Attendance at events will be limited to the defined room capacities listed on our reservable spaces page
  • Events cannot block doorways, hallways, or aisles with chairs, tables or persons
  • The listed organization will be held liable for damages to the facility and its equipment. Damages to the facility may lead to suspension of reservation privileges, cancellation of upcoming reservations, and/or inability to submit requests for future use of the facility
  • Organizations should return all rooms to their original condition at the conclusion of their event
  • The Campus Center loading dock should be used for loading and unloading only
  • Campus-wide wireless Internet is managed by UWG ITS. If WiFi is needed for an event, please review the wireless access web page or contact ITS Service Desk at 678-839-6587 in advance
  • If an item is left behind following an event or need to be placed in lost & found, please visit the Campus Center welcome desk or contact UREC administration at 678-839-5500
