Julie Kimble, Ed.D.

Dr. Julie Kimble is an instructor in the College of Education at the University of West Georgia, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate literacy courses. Before entering higher education, she served for 15 years as a secondary English teacher, but started her career in writing as a journalist for the Atlanta Journal/Constitution. While teaching high school, she served as the English Department Chair for many years and taught all grade levels of English courses, from mainstream language arts to AP Literature, gifted, and journalism (school newspaper). Each of these classes included multiple ELL students with varying language abilities; Dr. Kimble holds a doctorate (Ed.D.) in Curriculum Studies with an emphasis in Culture Studies from Georgia Southern University, a master's degree (M.Ed.) in English Education from Georgia State University, and an undergraduate degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from Brigham Young University. Her research interests include critical media literacy, family literacy, teacher autobiographies, and peer mentoring.
