Su Jara-Pazmino, Ph.D.

Dr. Su Jara-Pazmino – Associate Professor, Sport Management brings a global perspective, a passion for sport, and a relentless dedication to student success to her role as Associate Professor and Assistant Chair in the Sport Management, Wellness, & Physical Education Department at the University of West Georgia.

Originally from Ecuador, Dr. Jara-Pazmino began her career as an Athletic Director and basketball coach at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (2006–2013), where she helped shape sport programs and mentored student-athletes. Her own journey as a student-athlete—playing on the University of Michigan’s women’s basketball team (1998–2002) while earning her Bachelor of Arts degree—continues to fuel her commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders in sport. She went on to earn her Master’s (2015) and Doctorate (2020) in Sport and Entertainment Management at the University of South Carolina, further grounding her expertise in the academic and professional dimensions of the industry.

Now in her sixth year at the University of West Georgia, Dr. Jara-Pazmino teaches both undergraduate and graduate-level courses in Sport Management, inspiring students to connect classroom theory with real-world practice. Her teaching is known for being experiential, hands-on, and community-driven. Through service-learning projects, industry partnerships, and immersive assignments, she ensures that students graduate not only with knowledge but also with confidence, professional networks, and the skills needed to thrive in the dynamic, global sport industry.

Her research agenda is equally impactful, spanning three primary areas: Intercollegiate Athletics, the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, and the International Sport Industry. She actively explores timely topics such as Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) rights, international student-athlete recruiting, international sport event management, and multicultural perspectives in sport. This scholarship directly informs her teaching, allowing students to engage with the most pressing issues shaping the field today.

With her innovative teaching style, active research contributions, and purposeful service, Dr. Jara-Pazmiño has become a catalyst for student growth and success. She is committed to preparing her students not only for careers in sport management but also for leadership roles where they can make meaningful contributions to the ever-changing landscape of sport worldwide.
