At UWG, our ongoing commitment is to make the enrollment process smooth, transparent, and centered around the student experience, so students can focus on what matters most: reaching their goals.

To make the process of resolving holds simpler and more transparent, we've launched new functionality within Banner Self-Service as well as a comprehensive holds page to serve as a proactive resource in your enrollment journey!

What is a hold & Why do holds exist?

A hold is a temporary block on your student account that requires action before you can access certain university services.

Holds can happen for many reasons, including:

Missing documents (such as immunization records or admissions paperwork)
Unpaid balances or past-due fees
Required advising or academic support meetings
Other important university requirements

Holds are designed to help keep your academic and financial records up to date and ensure you have the resources and support you need to be successful, but some will prevent access to actions such as registration or receiving a diploma until they are resolved, so it's important to review your account regularly.

Occasionally, a hold may appear on a student's account due to past administrative processes or system updates—especially if a student has left UWG and returned after some time has passed. These holds are often already inactivated, historical in nature, and may not reflect a current issue. If you see a hold that seems outdated or unexpected, please don't hesitate to reach out—we're happy to review it with you.

Introducing Banner Tasks

We understand that unexpected holds can create barriers to your progress, and we're here to help make resolving them easier and faster, so we've launched a new feature within Banner Self-Service to help.

When a hold is added to your account, you'll see an immediate pop-up message with a link to contact information for various campus partners if you have questions or need extra support resolving a hold.
