Campus Sexual Health Program
Campus Sexual Health Program
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines sexual health as “a state of physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being in relation to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity. Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships and the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences free of coercion, discrimination, and violence. For sexual health to be attained and maintained, the sexual rights of all persons must be respected, protected, and fulfilled” (WHO, 2006).
As part of holistic campus wellness efforts, the University of West Georgia is committed to focusing on each dimension of wellness as the foundation for success for our students and employees. This includes our work centered around sexual health. Some of our efforts in promoting positive sexual health include, but are not limited to, education and advocacy on dating and healthy relationships, sexual assault prevention, safe sex practices, and human sexuality. To support the increased need for sexual health education at UWG and in the community, we must rely on a collaborative approach to meet the needs of students and employees across campus.
