your path to becoming a teacher

All education students are required to:

  1. Maintain GPA of 2.7 or higher
  2. Complete the GACE Ethics for Teachers Assessment offered through the GACE website
    • Add the University of West Georgia as the school to receive your scores.
  3. Complete the Teacher Education Admission Application
    • Applications will be emailed to your UWG address once you meet all the requirements for admission to teacher education.

Looking ahead:

  • As you progress through your education program, you will encounter several important steps, such as completing the GACE content assessment and securing liability insurance. These requirements may seem complex at first; however, please be assured that your academic advisor, your program faculty mentor, and College of Education faculty are committed to supporting you every step of the way. They will provide clear guidance and timely information to help you navigate these requirements with confidence.
  • If you have questions about which courses include field placements, your best contact is your program faculty mentor or advisor. They can give you the most accurate information about course requirements and what to expect.
  • The College of Education’s Office of Field Experiences (OFE) helps place students at field sites, but it does not handle course-specific questions like assignments or expectations during your placement. Those details will be covered in your course by your instructor.
  • Field Experience Applications: When it’s time to apply for your field experience, your advisor and the OFE will guide you through the process.
